Dans le sillage de nos archives : transmission et mémoire héritée est une exposition qui explore l'intimité et la nature affective des archives familiales et des récits oraux. Elle pose la question suivante : « Comment nous référons-nous aux souvenirs hérités et comment les incarnons-nous ? »
S'inspirant des réflexions de Stuart Hall sur les archives vivantes, le terme « archives » est ici abordé non seulement comme une preuve ou un récit du passé, mais aussi comme un témoignage des vides dans le temps et l'histoire. Il est abordé comme un ensemble holistique et dynamique qui offre, dans son caractère incomplet, la possibilité d'habiter et de réévaluer continuellement le passé, à la recherche de ce qui a été omis. Dans cette optique, l'exposition réunit Ethel-Ruth Tawe et Mallory Lowe Mpoka, deux artistes dont les pratiques sont profondément ancrées dans la transmission intergénérationnelle et la conservation des archives.
L'exposition est présentée en deux temps à articule (novembre 2025) et à l'Alliance Française ( hiver 2026) dans le cadre du symposium RAN.
In The Wake Of Our Archives: On Transmission and Inherited Memories is an exhibition that delves into the intimacy and affective nature of family archives and oral accounts. It poses the question, “How do we relate to and embody inherited memories?”
Taking cues from Stuart Hall’s reflections on the Living Archive, the term archive here is approached not only as evidence or recount of the past, but also as a testimony to the voids in time and history. It is approached as a holistic and dynamic body that offers, in its incompleteness, the possibility to inhabit and continuously reassess the past, in search of that which was omitted. In this vein, the exhibition brings together Ethel-Ruth Tawe and Mallory Lowe Mpoka, two artists whose practices are deeply rooted within intergenerational transmission and archival custodianship.
The exhibition is presented in two iterations at Articule (November 2025) and the Alliance Française (January 2026) within the framework of the RAN symposium.

Ethel Tawe
Ethel-Ruth Tawe (b. Yaoundé, Cameroon) is an antidisciplinary artist and creative researcher exploring memory in Africa and its diaspora. Image-making, storytelling, and time-travelling compose the framework of her inquiry. From photography, collage, and text, to moving image, installation and other time-based media, Tawe examines culture and technology often from a speculative lens. Her burgeoning curatorial practice took form in an inaugural exhibition titled 'African Ancient Futures', and continues to expand in a myriad of audiovisual experiments. She is currently Editor-in-Chief at the arts and culture platform Contemporary And (C&) Magazine.
Ethel-Ruth Tawe (née à Yaoundé, au Cameroun) est une artiste antidisciplinaire et chercheuse créative qui explore la mémoire en Afrique et dans sa diaspora. La création d'images, la narration et le voyage dans le temps constituent le cadre de sa recherche. De la photographie, du collage et du texte à l'image animée, à l'installation et à d'autres médias temporels, Tawe examine la culture et la technologie souvent sous un angle spéculatif. Sa pratique curatoriale naissante a pris forme dans une exposition inaugurale intitulée « African Ancient Futures » et continue de s'étendre à travers une myriade d'expériences audiovisuelles. Elle est actuellement rédactrice en chef de la plateforme artistique et culturelle Contemporary And (C&) Magazine.
Mallory Lowe Mpoka
Mallory Lowe Mpoka (b.1996) is a Cameroonian-Belgian artist based in Montreal. Her expanded photographic practice explores memory, place, and identity through weaving, ceramics, and sculpture. Engaging personal archives and colonial legacies, her work bridges continents and histories. She has exhibited internationally and is currently presenting a solo show at Fonderie Darling during Momenta Biennale in 2025.
Mallory Lowe Mpoka (née en 1996) est une artiste camerounaise-belge basée à Montréal. Sa pratique photographique élargie explore la mémoire, le lieu et l'identité à travers le tissage, la céramique et la sculpture. S'appuyant sur des archives personnelles et l'héritage colonial, son travail fait le pont entre les continents et les histoires. Elle a exposé à l'échelle internationale et présente actuellement une exposition solo à la Fonderie Darling dans le cadre de la Biennale Momenta en 2025.
